Arriving at Killary Harbour, we’re greeted by the towering heights of Mweelrea, Connacht’s highest mountain, and the majestic peaks of the Maumturk Mountains and Twelve Bens. Park our motorcycles and take a moment to soak in the awe-inspiring views, feeling the stresses of everyday life melt away amidst the tranquillity of this remote paradise.
For those eager to explore, lace up your boots and set out on foot along the historical Green Road, which runs alongside the fjord for approximately 9km. This rough road, once part of the famine relief programme during the 19th century, offers a glimpse into Ireland’s rich history and stunning natural landscapes.
